Postcards from the alt-right
#1
If you wonder how Trump can be so popular and these rightwingers live in some kind of alternate reality, innoculated against anything that goes against it because the supposed liberal bias of mainstream media, one should read the comment section of these websites. Warning, one needs a pretty strong stomach.

We'll accumulate a selection.

Quote:johnleehooker scharlesc • 2 hours ago libs/dems/progs have been taught by the moron machine called public education WHAT to think and not HOW to think. This is why we have an "affordable care act" which isn't and a "patient protection act" which doesn't. This liberal ideology rots the brain so that, over time, the "WHAT to think" part takes over the "HOW to think" part and eventually there is very little "How to think" brain left = Obama TWICE. Think about this: without her nomination hillry could not pass a background check, she could NEVER get a security clearance, and could NEVER work in a "sensitive" fed job. So, let's make her potus.

The video says it all..

Quote:The New York Times published a roughly three-minute video on Wednesday showcasing some of the obscenities hurled in the massive crowds in and around Donald Trump's rallies. Titled "Unfiltered: Voices from Trump's Crowds," the video showcased people disparaging Muslims, immigrants, President Barack Obama, and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton with extremely vulgar language.

About time. Hillary taking on the alt-right media, nutty conspiracy stuff that delegitimizes, declares guilty without evidence (or by association) and is a hotbed for the most weird conspiracy theories.

Quote:Clinton said that Trump’s “paranoid fever dream” about her health was a result, perhaps, of consuming such media. “It’s what happens when you listen to the radio host Alex Jones, who claims that 9/11 and the Oklahoma City bombings were inside jobs,” she said. “He said the victims of the Sandy Hook massacre were child actors and no one was actually killed there.”

At one point in her speech, Clinton read a series of headlines from Breitbart. “To give you a flavor of his work, here are a few headlines they’ve published,” she said, proceeding to pronounce the headlines while her audience of supporters gasped and jeered: “Birth Control Makes Women Unattractive and Crazy"; "Would You Rather Your Child Had Feminism or Cancer?" and "Gabby Giffords: The Gun Control Movement’s Human Shield"

Never mind the comment section, the alt-right websites themselves contain plenty of nonsense.. The American "Thinker" argues there is a battle for America's mind. In order to be able to deny stuff like climate change, it argues it's the left that denies facts exist (and quotes that old Leninist hack Nietzsche in support..) LOL

Quote:What is the root or basis of the battle? Simple.  It's epistemological and psychological: truth vs. ideology and facts vs. feelings. Is there such a thing as truth or facts?  Do we let ideology warp truth?  Do we let feelings triumph over truth and facts? The left employs six tactics to win the battle. The first is to deny that facts and truth exist.  Nietzsche

So, the American "Thinker" argues the left argue facts don't exist (and five other sly strategies in their battle for the American mind). How about this:

Quote:James Comey's rationale for not referring Hillary Clinton's email crimes to the Justice Department rested almost entirely on a single, quite thin, legal and ethical plank, which was that she did not act intentionally when she sent and received classified emails over her home-brew server. Though his argument for deferring prosecution was mostly specious, it did contain at least a shred of credibility in that as Comey described the situation to the American public and Congress, Hillary had no motive to intentionally put American national security at risk.  However, the recent evidentiary revelation (many would say confirmation) that Hillary established the server with the deliberate intent of shielding her illicit influence-peddling for her family "Foundation" while secretary of state shows that the issue of her motivation could not be seen by any "reasonable" prosecutor as exculpatory.  Comey's refusal to recommend prosecution, while knowing these facts at the time, proves he was not reasonable, and also that he is incompetent and culpable for not doing so.
Articles: Comey's Corrupt and Shameful Conduct Revealed

Some facts:
  1. Comey was a Republican nominee
  2. About those classified emails, see below
  3. The Clinton Foundation has been subject of much inuendo, but no breach of law has been established. Speaking about facts..
Quote:First, as Clinton repeatedly has stated over the last year, she never received or sent any email that was marked as classified. At Comey's press conference on Tuesday, he appeared to contradict that claim, saying there were "very few" that had classified markings. But then at the congressional hearing on Thursday, he withdrew his claim. He said that three, out of more than 30,000, had a marking of a small "C" — something he said a classification expert would not regard as sufficient to know the document contained classified information.

Not surprisingly, the media on Tuesday and Wednesday hyped the fact that the FBI director had contradicted Clinton's repeated assertions that she had never sent or received emails marked as classified, but then when Comey later withdrew that claim, the media barely covered the reversal.

Second, despite accusations by partisan Republicans to the contrary, there is no evidence — none — that the former secretary of State in fact compromised national security by using a private server. Both the FBI director and the State Department inspector general confirmed that. Comey's statement that it is "possible" is pure speculation — questionable for the head of the FBI to use such a speculative word publicly.

He also did not point out at his press conference or during the hearing that using the State Department server, state.gov, was a known, definite risk; we know that the department server has been hacked multiple times by Chinese and Russian hackers.

Third, Comey used the expression "extreme carelessness" because he said Clinton "should have known" that more than 100 emails that were sent to her private server using nonsecure communications channels contained classified information, albeit without any classification markings.

But what he did not say is that more than 300 State Department officials, including many longtime, nonpartisan career professionals and diplomats, also used the same nonclassified channels to send her these emails allegedly containing classified information. If over 300 State professionals and experts didn't recognize classified information in the emails they sent to Clinton, and they used nonsecure channels to send them to her, then how can Clinton plausibly be accused, alone, of showing "extreme carelessness" because she "should have" known what 300-plus government professionals did not? I don't think she can.

We could fill tens of full-time jobs sorting all the nonsense on just one of the alt-right websites, the American "Thinker" Here is another one, about why white males have a right to be angry:

Quote:The second study was a look at job creation in America. I’ve argued for all eight years of the Obama presidency that his policies are destroying “Main Street.” Yes, Wall Street has been flying, and Silicon Valley has been flying, and the suburbs of Washington, DC are enjoying record income and home price appreciation. But outside of those few places, the economy is D-E-A-D. There are few business start-ups or jobs being created outside of Silicon Valley; Manhattan; Washington, DC; Boston; and Austin.
Articles: Proof That Angry White Males Have Every Right to be Angry

Let's see, shall we:
  1. The stagnation of median wages is a feature of the American economy since the 1980s, not exclusive to Obama's presidency (see graph below)
  2. The US experienced one of the longest periods of job creation under Obama (but of course the right thinks the figures are doctored)
  3. Wages are in fact starting to rise as we're approaching full employment
  4. It's entirely plausible that the great wage stagnation is a result of the shift to shareholder capitalism and anti-labor policies
  5. The destruction of the middle class has been mostly a US phenomenon
So, perhaps white males have reasons to be angry, but angry at whom? At the right for pursuing a policy agenda that only benefits the rich and at sites like the American Thinker for obfuscating that.

The comment section to these articles are even more hilarious. Complaining about the decline of the middle class:

Quote:Schmutzli • 2 days ago So Fundamental Transformation has made the two biggest industries in the United States of America the gruberment and the Professional Grievance Industries (race, feminism, and muslims). Nice, except neither produces wealth, both only confiscate it from the producers of wealth. White males abdicating their historical position of leadership, industriousness, and success to the gruberment pukes and the professionally aggrieved was a very, very bad idea, for it will never be recoverable.

Another of the alt-right websites, infowars. It's founder Alex Jones pleads with Hillary not to kill him. Yes, literally:

Quote:Jones lays out the history of the Clintons and their campaign of worldwide mass murder, and he asks Hillary not to make him her next victim.
Special Report: Alex Jones Asks Hillary Clinton Not to Kill Him » Alex Jones' Infowars: There's a war on for your mind!

The report itself is a video where Jones associates the Clintons with a host of murders. This supposedly from the law and order party where people are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

There hasn't even been an indictment, let alone conviction. Now you know where these chants "lock her up" at Trump rallies come from, and in fact, some go further:

Quote:It is not enough to simply beat Hillary Clinton, an adviser to Donald Trump’s campaign said. She must be killedThe theme of the last two nights has been less “Make America Safe Again” or “Make America Work Again” and more “Lock Her Up.” But some of Trump’s most diehard supporters want to go further—they want her to be executed. “Anyone that commits treason should be shot,” Al Baldasaro, an adviser to the Trump campaign for veterans issues, told The Daily Beast. “I believe Hillary Clinton committed treason. She put people in danger. When people take confidential material off a server, you’re sharing information with the enemy. That’s treason.” Baldasaro was expanding on a violent call he made Tuesday, when he called for Clinton to be “put in the firing line” over her mishandling of classified emails. He made these remarks on the Jeff Kuhner Show, Buzzfeed reported.
Trump Adviser Al Baldasaro: Execute Hillary Clinton for ‘Treason’ - The Daily Beast

And, as ever, the comment section to that Infowars 'report' leaves some classics from the young and impressionable, like this:

Quote:AFTER viewing above video do you think Hillary's wican pagan witches will NOT try to kill , curse and destroy ALEX? It is BARBRA STRIESAND and her hollywood wican society that wants ALEX dead ! This includes Donna Karan and the entire fashion industry with witch ANNA WINTOUR OF VOGUE MAGAZINE . IF THESE SO CALLED '' WOMEN '' CAN APPLAUD A HILLARY LAW THAT ENDORSES THE SLAUGHTER OF A 9 MONTH OLD BABY BY THE EXECUTING DOCTORS CARVING A HOLE IN THE BACK OF THE 9 MONTH OLD BABIES HEAD AND THEN VACUUMING ALL THE BRAINS OUT THEN ............ WHY WOULDN'T THEY WANT ALEX KILLED?????? The executing doctor plays Barbra's '' people who need people '' at each baby execution and Barbra and Jane Fonda sit in Barbra's Malibou castle watching the news on her 50 thousand dollar TV .........Giggling and laughing at the words I just wrote and giggling and laughing at the George Soros money that Funds BLM so they will kill cops and then blame TRUMP for all the violence and then suggest Hillary is best for president..... YOUR A FOOL IF YOU CAN'T SEE THAT THESE WITCHES ARE DIRECTING AND PRODUCING HILLARY'S PRESIDENCY !!!!!!!! A FOOL !

A fairly lengthy article, but a good intro to the alt-right and it's de-facto take-over of the Republican party

Quote:Alt-Right is short for “Alternative Right.” The Wall Street Journal describes it as a loosely organized movement, mostly online, that “rejects mainstream conservatism, promotes nationalism and views immigration and multiculturalism as threats to white identity.” The de facto merger between Breitbart and the Trump Campaign represents a landmark achievement for the “Alt-Right.” A fringe element has effectively taken over the Republican Party.
